Show Notes

Biographical Information

  • Steven Beebe
    • Dr. Beebe was Regents’ and University Distinguished Professor of Communication Studies. He served as Chair of the Department of Communication Studies for 28 years and Associate Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication for 25 years. Steven has been a Visiting Scholar at both Oxford and Cambridge University. He discovered a C.S. Lewis manuscript which was part of an opening chapter of a book that was to be co-authored with J. R. R. Tolkien called Language and Human Nature. Dr. Steven Beebe is a former guest of the show. He has been on Pints With Jack to talk about his book C. S. Lewis and the Craft of Communication, as well as explain the communication secrets of our favourite devil, Uncle Screwtape.
  • Gordon Greenhill
    • Since 2009, Dr. Jeremy Gordon Grinnell, who goes by Gordon Greenhill professionally, has been scouring libraries, used book stores, and the internet collecting publication data on C. S. Lewis’ books. While an exhaustive history of his editions is probably impossible, this catalog contains the most extensive collection of cover images and publication data in existence. It is now being offered online in hopes that fellow Lewis devotees will be able to review and expand its offerings from their own collections.

Quotes-of-the-week

“I quite agree with what you say about buying books, and love all the planning and scheming beforehand, and if they come by post, finding the neat little parcel waiting for you on the hall table and rushing upstairs to open it in the privacy of your own room. . .It is lovely in books the way you can just turn from one sort of beauty to another and never get tired. “

C.S. Lewis, Collected Letters Vol. I

“Arthur taught me was to love the bodies of books. I had always respected them.. .But Arthur did not merely respect, he was enamored; and soon, I too. The set up of the page, the feel and smell of the paper, the differing sounds that different papers make as you turn the leaves, became sensuous delights.”

C.S. Lewis, Surprised by Joy
