  • I haven’t viewed the vid; I like David Wood mostly for his take on Islam. When he speaks on Christianity, he (no surprise) gets it wrong (i.e. not Catholic). I was wondering whether you were familiar with David’s vids on Islam; they may be very illuminating as you progress through the Quran. I’m enjoying following along.

    • Yeah, I know David chiefly through his work on Islam. His testimony video is well worth a watch. He’s a great debater – very calm and methodical. When he debates Muslims he’s very respectful, but in his videos he’s, well… I guess you’d call him more of a “provocateur”?

While David isn’t Catholic, I haven’t seen anything noticeably anti-Catholic in his material. In fact, when I read “No God But One” by his friend Nabeel, there were a couple of times when I was impressed by the passing references to various things Catholic. The only partial exception I can think of is in the section where he addressed Jihad. Nabeel mentioned St. Augustine’s “Just War Theory” and, although he didn’t denounce it, you get the impression that he’s not much of a fan.

However, you do highlight an interesting point that most material produced for Christians comes from non-Catholic Christians, with the notable exception of Robert Spencer, a Melkite Catholic #GoEasternCatholics. An engaged Catholic (one who will read books on the Faith, often listens to Catholic Answers etc) will typically be able to respond to challenges from Fundamentalists, Pro-Choice Advocates and Atheists, but I would suggest that most wouldn’t really know where to begin when speaking to a Muslim. This is the main reason I plan to be writing a lot about Islam over the coming months.

  • Yes; Wood’s testimony vid is good, especially how it was filmed as one single take. I’m very interested in following your journey through the Quran and Islam. Have a Holy Advent.
