Heading out into the desert…

Walkabout

Hey everyone,

I hope you’ve all been enjoying the recent posts here at Restless Pilgrim. I wanted to thank those of you who gave me feedback and continued the discussion in the Comment Boxes – you bring so much to the conversation, thanks 🙂

I’ve decided to take a one-month hiatus from blogging here. I feel like I need a bit of a break, plus I have a few exciting projects which need my attention…

In the meantime, I’ve setup the blog to post a quotation from the Desert Fathers each day so you won’t get bored or get out of the habit of stopping by here to say “Hello” 🙂

See you in October!

Wise Words on Wednesday: Patron of Restless Hearts

Yesterday was the Feast of St. Monica, which means today we remember one of my favourite Saints, the Patron Saint of Restless Hearts (and probably Restless Pilgrims too), Early Church Father, St. Augustine:

Late have I loved you, O Beauty ever ancient, ever new, late have I loved you! You were within me, but I was outside, and it was there that I searched for you. In my unloveliness I plunged into the lovely things which you created. You were with me, but I was not with you. Created things kept me from you; yet if they had not been in you they would have not been at all. You called, you shouted, and you broke through my deafness. You flashed, you shone, and you dispelled my blindness. You breathed your fragrance on me; I drew in breath and now I pant for you. I have tasted you, now I hunger and thirst for more. You touched me, and I burned for your peace. – St. Augustine

Vatican Wealth

Several times recently I’ve had people speak to me about “the wealth of the Vatican”, either implying it’s wrong for the Church to have money or just openly condemning it. It is declared that it is hypocritical and somehow contrary to the teaching of Jesus. A lot could be said on this subject, but I would just like to briefly make a few points…
