  • very nice. 🙂 I need to read pretty much all the ones on your 2013 list… I’ve been thinking about several of them recently!

  • Intro to the Devout Life is one of my favorites…I go back to it constantly, and love how practical St. Francis’ advice is, even now.

And I’m in the middle St. Augustine’s Confessions at the moment. It’s great stuff, although he sometimes throws out interesting descriptions. My favorite so far is when he describes St. Ambrose’s preaching as inspiring “sober intoxication.” That’s the definition of an oxymoron, right there. 🙂

  • I put a few C.S. Lewis books on my list too. God bless him, he’s a phenomenal writer. Even when they are challenging you and shaking you to your core, his words are a delight to read: precious, hydrating water on your grey matter. 😀 My spiritual director had me read Intro to a Devout life; it took me two tries to get a small handhold on it. I struggled with Imitation of Christ and Soul of the Apostolate as well. I don’t think I read them as they should be read. I found they’re more like books you read until your head swims, set down for a good long while so you can sort yourself out, and then pick back up later to continue the lesson. I hope you are more capable than I am and can more easily read them because there is so much goodness there.
