Catholic Dating: Let’s try this again…

A long, long time ago I announced that I was writing a series of posts which would attempt to respond to a question which I have heard asked in frustration by many of my female Catholic friends concerning my brothers in the Faith: “Why doesn’t that nice Catholic boy ask me out?”

Despite having received a lively response to my original blog entry, it is well over a year later and I have posted nothing further on the subject 🙁

Now, I did begin sketching out a few initial articles, but unfortunately I soon began to feel rather nervous, unsure as to how such posts would be received, particularly by those within my immediate Church family. So, to cut a long story short, I chickened out. I stopped working on them and didn’t publish anything further on the subject.

And in case you were wondering, no, the irony of this was not lost on me…

The Garter Alternative

There is one wedding “tradition” which I had never come across prior to coming to the United States. It’s the “tossing of the garter” where, in front of all guests, the groom takes off his bride’s garter (sometimes using only with his teeth) and then tosses it to all the single guys, much in the same way as a bride throws a bouquet:

Survived The Teenagers!

Last night I spent the evening teaching Pam’s Youth Group how to swing dance (my voice has just about recovered!).

We wanted to kick things off by showing them a clip of swing dancing so they could see this style of dance in all its glory. We ended up showing them a clip from Swing Kids. I had wanted to show them another video but I couldn’t find it…until this morning:

I literally cannot watch this video without smiling 🙂

A little bit of listening…

One of the complaints you often hear from women about men is that they don’t listen. I think they say other stuff after that but I tend to zone out a bit… 😉

Well anyway…below is quite a sweet video which proves that, on occasion, men can actually listen…

Here the groom is throwing a surprise wedding for his finacée… This chap goes for broke and really pulls off something quite amazing. However, what I really liked about this video is that it’s clear that he listened to his fiancée and made certain that he knew exactly what she wanted. Way to man-up! I salute you sir!

And as a follow-up, I’d invite you to read “Marriage is like wine” from one of my favourite blogs, Almost Not Catholic.
