Register for free one-day young adult retreat in San Diego!

Registration is now open for the “Restless” Retreat. This is a free, one day retreat at St. Catherine Laboure on Saturday, April 14th:
SPC

The theme of the retreat is being taken from St. Augustine’s famous line, “You made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our hearts will wander restless until we rest in you”. I swear I did not pick the retreat theme… 🙂

We will have speakers including Jamie Cleaton and Timmerie Millington.

Lunch will be provided. Did I mention this was free?

TOT: Joyful Discernment

TOT-ND

On the 1st February, a new Theology On Tap series was kicked off at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Paradise Hills. Sister Peter Marie and Sister Elizabeth Marie from the Nashville Dominicans gave a talk on “Joyful Discernment”. They were accompanied by some of their Dominican brothers, Fr. Stephen Maria Lopez and Fr. James Moore, who joined them for the Q&A session.

If you would like to hear audio from other San Diego “Theology On Tap” sessions, you can subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, Google Play or manually via the RSS feed.

“Q&A” (Download)

Questions asked during the Q&A were:

•  How long have you been a teacher? What has been your favourite subject to teach?

• What is “sanctifying grace”?

• I felt called to a ministry and that’s now complete. I’m not currently feeling called to anything in particular. Should I wait or should I actively be looking?

• Have you ever experienced synchronicities in your life which you felt were of God?

• Is it selfish to ask God for clarity in your vocation?

• Is it free will if God already knows what I’m going to choose?

The Sea Within

I’ve recently made an effort to get back into the water and go surfing each week. It is, after all, one of the perks of living somewhere like San Diego, bruh….

Last week, while I was sitting on my board waiting for the next round of waves, I was chatting (as you do) about philosophy and, in particular, one of my favourite people in the world, Dr. Peter Kreeft. I’m sure that many of you reading this post have heard of Dr. Kreeft. However, I would imagine that a good number of you were unaware that Dr. Kreeft loves surfing…

If you’d like more material like this, then I’d definitely recommend listening to his lecture on The Sea.

It’s like Woodstock, but with more Bible

I spent some time today planning my travels for the next few months and I was delighted to look in my calendar and remember that the West Coast Biblical Studies Conference is on the horizon!

The two-day conference is at the end of January (27th and 28th) in San Diego. Once again it is being held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, with the usual line-up of excellent speakers: Scott Hahn, John Bergsma, Michael Barber and John Kincaid. This year the focus will be on The Book of Acts: How the Holy  Spirit leads the Church through hard times.

Tickets are $50, but if you buy yours before 15th December, the price is reduced to $40. If you’re coming from out-of-town, be sure to let me know!
