PWJ: S4E41 – AH – “After Hours” with Michael Ward

In 2008, Dr. Michael Ward released “Planet Narnia”, a book which caused a real stir in C.S. Lewis studies in which he offered a new lens through which to view “The Chronicles of Narnia”. On today’s show, in addition to his book, Dr. Ward discusses his friendship with the late Walter Hooper, as well as his involvement in honouring Lewis’ life and legacy. Oh yes, and he also explains how he came to give James Bond a pair of x-ray glasses…

PWJ: S3E6 – Bonus – "Introduction to The Narnia Code"

Matt and I didn’t manage to get together to record this week, so I thought I’d do a solo episode today. Last month I was on the Talking Beasts podcast discussing Dr. Michael Ward’s The Narnia Code and therefore thought it would make a good subject for today’s episode.

PWJ: S2E25 – PC – “Prince Caspian”

Each Season we discuss briefly one of the Chronicles of Narnia. In Season 1 we read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. This Season, we’re reading Prince Caspian, as it was the second book to be published. In comparison to the previous book, Prince Caspian is less familiar to most people so we had to spend more time outlining the plot, so Matt and I ended up having to break up our discussion over two episodes.

Planet Narnia

In our monthly C.S. Lewis book club, we’ve nearly completed “The Great Divorce”. When we’re finished with that book, we’re going to begin “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”. I’ve loved the Chronicles of Narnia ever since I was very little. Particularly after rereading them as an adult, I thought I understood them very well. Great was my surprise, therefore, when I first heard about “Planet Narnia”, a theory put forward by Michael Ward outlining another layer of meaning behind each book in the series…
