In case you’re interested in Eastern Catholic/Orthodox spirituality, I recently came across the catechesis videos which are put out by the Eparchy of Phoenix:
I’m reading a few books at the moment, but the one I’d like to mention today is Orthodox Christianity, Marriage & Contraception by Anthony Stehlin. I’m only about a third of the way through it so far, but I really wanted to do a short post concerning something mentioned in the first chapter….
A few months ago I decided to join an Eastern Orthodox online forum to try and soak up some more eastern knowledge. I actually found the group incredibly hostile to Catholics (especially Eastern Catholics), but that’s a post for another time.
Members of the group stated again and again that teaching in Eastern Orthodoxy has never changed, something which they contrasted to the supposed deviations of Catholicism. In response to this, I asked the group about the Eastern Orthodox position concerning contraception…
Yesterday I gave a brief presentation on Eastern Christianity with my friend Kate, who is Eastern Orthodox (ROCOR). It was so much fun – I had a blast talking about my love for the East 🙂
Eastern Catholicism is a bit of a mystery to a lot of people. Honestly, Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox Christians often look at Eastern Catholics and scratch their heads. Are they Catholic? Are they Orthodox? I’m sure similar questions are going to be raised tomorrow so I thought I’d post the following YouTube interview of Fr. Maximos from Holy Resurrection Monastery since it deals with many of these questions surrounding Eastern Catholic identity:

Over lunch I finished reading An Eastern Orthodox Christian Looks West, an article posted on Devin Rose’s blog written by Eastern Orthodox Christian Timothy Flanders. In his extensive article he discusses his journey from Protestantism to Eastern Orthodoxy and then goes on to discuss his investigation of Catholicism.
As a Catholic with a great attraction to the Eastern Christian heritage, I found it a really interesting read and I’m planning on reading it again tonight in an attempt to fully digest its content.
Devin is hoping for some really good Comment Box discussions so I decided to publish a link here in an effort to get more people to read it. I know that there are a good number of people who read this blog who come from different religious backgrounds who will have an interesting perspective on this article, particularly my Eastern Catholic friends.
