Music Monday: Nothing To Fear

Another Audrey Assad song this week, where she appears with The Porter’s Gate, singing “Nothing to Fear”…

When you pass through the waters I will be with you
And the depths of the river shall not overwhelm
When you walk through the fire you will not be burned
I am the Lord. I am the Lord

And there is nothing to fear, nothing to fear
There is nothing to fear, nothing to fear
For I am with you always.

In the depths of your sorrow I wept beside you
When you walked through the shadow I drew you near
Yesterday, today, tomorrow – always the same
I am the Lord, I am the Lord

What can separate you from My perfect Love?
What can separate you from My perfect Love?
What can separate you from My perfect Love?
Do not fear. Do not fear. Do not fear.

When I see You

I heard today that Audrey Assad is working on Sarah Kroger’s new album. It therefore seemed like the appropriate time to post this recording of Sarah singing Audrey’s “When I see You”…

[Verse 1]
You have loved me well, in a million ways
But my wounds are all I know
So I turn my head, and I hide my face
Too afraid to come back home

[Chorus]
But all of the doors swing open
When I see You, when I see You
You make my heart unbroken
When I see You, when I see You
And I come undone, I come undone!

[Verse 2]
When my fear comes close, and it robs me blind
Oh, how Your love provides for me
What a winding road, what a river wild
Oh, being Yours, becoming free!

[Bridge]
My eyes more open the closer You come
My heart unfolds like a flower in the sun
My fear grows cold in the light of Your love
My heart unfolds, I’m coming undone!…
My eyes more open the closer You come
My heart unfolds like a flower in the sun
My fear grows cold in the light of Your love
My heart unfolds, I’m coming undone!

Music Monday: Wood and Nails

While I’m waiting for Audrey Assad to release more music videos for her new album, Evergreen, here’s a video from a collaboration project, The Porter’s Gate Project. This is “Wood and Nails”:

O humble carpenter, down on your hands and knees,
look on your handiwork and build a house so you may dwell in me,
so you may dwell in me…

The work was done with nothing
but wood and nails in your scarborne hands,
O show me how to work and praise,
trusting that I am your instrument

The kingdom’s come and built
upon wood and nails gripped with joyfulness,
So send me out with in Your ways,
knowing that the task is finished

The dead will rise and give you praise,
wood and nails will not hold them down!
These wooden tombs, we’ll break them soon,
and fashion them into flower beds

The curse is done, the battle one,
swords bent down to plowshares,
Your scareborne hands, we’ll join with them,
serving at the table you’ve prepared

Music Monday: Drawn to you

Here’s the single released last week from Audrey Assad, “Drawn to you”:

All my devotion is like sinking sand
I’ve nothing to cling to but your sweet hand
No clear emotions keeping me safe at night;
Only your presence, like a candle light.

After everything I’ve had
After everything I’ve lost
Lord, I know this much is true
I’m still drawn to you.

I pour out my sorrows like a precious oil
I kiss your feet, Lord, with a holy joy
My tears an offering of my highest praise;
Your eyes say ‘welcome.’ I receive Your gaze.

After everything’s been said
After everything love costs
Lord, I know this much is true
I’m still drawn to you

Music Monday: I shall not want

I cannot believe that “I shall not want” by Audrey Assad has not been on Music Mondays before!

I was on the phone this week with a friend and the Litany of Humility was mentioned, so when I got off the phone I went looking for the blog entry where I posted this song, one of my favourites from Audrey Assad, only to find that I had never shared here before!

Previously, I had posted the song from Danielle Rose, which is really beautiful and also which stays closer to the original text of the prayer, but here is the song by Audrey Assad which managed to work its way just that little bit deeper into my heart…

From the love of my own comfort
From the fear of having nothing
From a life of worldly passions
Deliver me O God

From the need to be understood
And from a need to be accepted
From the fear of being lonely
Deliver me O God
Deliver me O God

And I shall not want, no, I shall not want
When I taste Your goodness, I shall not want
When I taste Your goodness, I shall not want

From the fear of serving others
Oh, and from the fear of death or trial
And from the fear of humility
Deliver me O God
Yes, deliver me O God
