Wise Words on Wednesday: An atheist tells it how it is

“How much do you have to hate somebody to not proselytize? How much do you have to hate someone to believe everlasting life is possible and not tell them that?”

I haven’t heard any music from John Waller in quite some time, but just now I did some googling and came across this rather sweet song, a duit with Josee Waller. It’s called “The Marriage Prayer”:
Father, I said till death do us part
I want to mean it with all of my heart
Help me to love You more than I love her
Then I know I can love her more than anyone else
And bring her in Your presence today
Make her what You want her to be
I pray to hear her heart
I pray she’ll love You more
I pray to cherish and serve her
And we’ll bring You glory today, I pray
I pray
Father, I said till death do us part
I want to mean it with all of my heart
Help me to love You more than I love him
Then I know I can love him more than anyone else
And bring him in Your presence today
Make him what You want him to be
I pray to hear his heart
I pray he’ll love You more
I pray to strengthen and serve him
We’ll bring You glory today, I pray
Lord, help me love her
As You love the church, Your bride
Help me submit to him
As I submit to You, my life
I pray to hear her heart
I pray he’ll love You more
I pray to cherish and serve her
We’ll bring You glory today, today
I pray to hear her heart
I pray she’ll love You more
I pray to cherish and serve her
We’ll bring You glory today
I pray, I pray
This is my prayer
Amen
Next week our C.S. Lewis bookclub will be going to see a one man theatre show, retelling the life of C.S. Lewis.
As I was browsing the Internet, I came across a theatre recommendation from C.S. Lewis’ stepson, Douglas Gresham:
The Logos Theatre had put on a production of Prince Caspian earlier this year.
While that play has now ended, I checked their website and saw that they have another play about Lewis and Bonhoeffer running this week and there’ll be a production of The House and His Boy next year. So, if you’re in the South Carolina area, you might want to check it out!
If you’re in the San Diego area in November, you should come out to my parish, Holy Angels Byzantine Catholic Church in San Diego, as we will be hosting “The Word of Life” Biblical conference.
Our speaker will be Fr. Deacon Daniel Dozier. I’ve heard him speak at a previous event in Phoenix, Arizona and I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed.
The conference will run from 10:30am – 4:30pm. Registration is by donation, with a suggested donation of $25. You can register here.

The test of the morality of a society is what it does for its children.

This week I was a guest on one of my favourite podcasts, The Lamp-Post Listener.
The hosts, Daniel and Phil are going through C.S. Lewis’ book, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, chapter by chapter and they invited me on to discuss with them Chapter 16: What Happened About the Statues…
