Music Monday: Everything to me

Today’s song is one of my old-time favourite, Mark Schultz. Mark was given up for adoption as a baby and this is the song he wrote to his birth mother:

I must have felt your tears
When they took me from your arms
I’m sure I must have heard you say goodbye
Lonely and afraid had you made a big mistake
Could an ocean even hold the tears you cried

But you had dreams for me
You wanted the best for me
And you made the only choice you could that night

[Chorus]
You gave life to me
A brand new world to see
Like playing baseball in the yard with dad at night
Mom reading Goodnight Moon
And praying in my room
So if you worry if your choice was right
You gave me up but you gave everything to me

And if I saw you on the street
Would you know that it was me
And would your eyes be blue or green like mine
Would we share a warm embrace
Would you know me in your heart
Or would you smile and let me walk on by
Knowing you had dreams for me
You wanted the best for me
And I hope that you’d be proud of who I am

And when I see you there
Watching from heaven’s gates
Into your arms
I’m gonna run
And when you look in my eyes
You can see my whole life
See who I was
And who I’ve become

Music Monday: Heart Of Worship

A Contemporary Christian Worship classic, “Heart of worship” by Matt Redman:

When the music fades
and all is stripped away
and I simply come.
Longing just to bring
something that’s of worth
that will bless Your heart.

I’ll bring You more than a song,
for a song in itself
is not what You have required.
You search much deeper within,
through the way things appear,
You’re looking into my heart.

I’m coming back to the heart of worship
and it’s all about You, it’s all about You, Jesus.
I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it
when it’s all about You, it’s all about You, Jesus.

King of endless worth,
no one could express
how much you deserve.
Though I’m weak and poor,
all I have is Yours,
every single breath!

Music Monday: I heard the voice of Jesus

Today we have Audrey Assad’s arrangement of the 19th Century hymn, “I heard the voice of Jesus Say”:

1. I heard the voice of Jesus say,
“Come unto Me and rest;
Lay down, thou weary one, lay down,
Thy head upon My breast.”
I came to Jesus as I was,
Weary and worn and sad;
I found in Him a resting-place,
And He has made me glad.

2. I heard the voice of Jesus say,
“Behold, I freely give
The living water; thirsty one,
Stoop down and drink and live.”
I came to Jesus, and I drank
Of that life-giving stream.
My thirst was quenched, my soul revived,
And now I live in Him.

3. I heard the voice of Jesus say,
“I am this dark world’s Light.
Look unto Me; thy morn shall rise
And all thy day be bright.”
I looked to Jesus, and I found
In Him my Star, my Sun;
And in that Light of Life I’ll walk
Till traveling days are done.

Music Monday: Stay here with me

I can’t believe that in all the time I’ve been doing Music Mondays, I haven’t shared a single Taizé chant. In case you haven’t heard of Taizé before, it is an ecumenical monastery in central France founded by the now deceased Brother Roger. A style of chant grew up around Taizé which has now been adopted throughout the world.

In the video below you will see some of the stained glass from the monastery’s main building, the Church of Reconciliation. The audio comes from the chant, “Stay with me”, a meditation on the Garden of Gethsemane.

Music Monday: Our God Reigns

Today’s entry is probably one of my all-time favourite “Praise & Worship” songs…

Yours and so much mine
By the morning, light is Thine
Perfect by design

Mighty to man, light of the earth
Sending His Son to echo His worth
Breaker of sin, winner of souls
Every creature will know

Our God reigns over the heavens
Over the earth, Our God reigns
Praise His name, All still standing
All that was, all that remains
Our God reigns

Deepest Ocean opened wide
So shall love divide
In devotion to His bride
Standing by her side

So much Holy, So divine
Yours and so much mine
