Music Monday: Fire of Your Spirit

For today’s Music Monday, we have something a little different from usual. The song below is “Fire of Your Spirit”, sung in Hebrew and performed by Sarah Liberman. I love the mix of Contemporary Christian Music with the Tabernacle setting from the time of Moses:

Put the fire of Your Spirit upon me
Place the power of Your word within me
Fill me, Fill me

I will bow down before the throne of God
I will lift Your Name above all names
There is none like You Adonai among the gods
Fill me, Fill me
Fill me with your love
Place Your healing power within me
Fill me, Fill me

I will bow down before the throne of God
I will lift Your Name above all names
There is none like You Adonai among the gods
Your blood purifies, Your blood frees x2

I am free, I am free
You are great and greatly to be praised x2

Who is like thee Adonai?
Working wonders
Majestic in holiness
Awesome in glory

Music Monday: The Lion and the Lamb

We’re kicking off the year with one of my favourite bands and one who has a fantastic name, “Big Daddy Weave”. This is “The Lion and the Lamb”:

He’s coming on the clouds, kings and kingdoms will bow down
And every chain will break, as broken hearts declare His praise
Who can stop the Lord Almighty?

Our God is the Lion, the Lion of Judah
He’s roaring with power and fighting our battles
And every knee will bow before You
Our God is the Lamb, the Lamb that was slain
For the sin of the world, His blood breaks the chains
And every knee will bow before the Lion and the Lamb
Oh every knee will bow before the Lion and the Lamb

So open up the gates, make way before the King of kings
Our God who calls the saved is here to set the captives free
Who can stop the Lord Almighty?

Music Monday: I heard the Bells on Christmas Day

Since yesterday Christmas began, it’s time to crack open the Christmas Music! Today is one of my favourites, “I heard the Bells on Christmas Day”, by Casting Crowns:

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play
And mild and sweet their songs repeat
Of peace on earth good will to men

And the bells are ringing (peace on earth)
Like a choir they’re singing (peace on earth)
In my heart I hear them (peace on earth)
Peace on earth, good will to men

And in despair I bowed my head
There is no peace on earth I said
For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men

Then rang the bells more loud and deep
God is not dead, nor does he sleep (peace on earth, peace on earth)
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men

Then ringing singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men

Music Monday: Learn to Let Go

“Learning to Let Go” by Levv, the collaboration group between Audrey Assad and Seth Jones:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JblrapsL7o

Living alone, living a lie, stealing what you need from me
Your heart in your chest, knife in your breast
Call it what you want, honey
When you battle like a soldier, dropping bombs on everything you see
Fighting a forsaken war, what for?
You create your enemies

Runaway, runaway I wish you would give it up and come home
The fear in your eyes, you’re seeing spies everywhere you turn, you know
But you battle like a soldier, dropping bombs on everything you see
Fighting a forsaken war, what for?
You create your enemies

But I am learning to let go of you.

Give me a rhyme or reason why I should turn my back and be gone
At times I confess, it seems the best and easiest way to go on
But I battle like a soldier, picking up the pieces of our love
Fighting a forsaken war: what for, when it’s time to give up?

So I am learning to let go of you.

Music Monday: Brother

Today’s song is “Brother” from NEEDTOBREATHE:

Ramblers in the wilderness we can’t find what we need
We get a little restless from the searching
Get a little worn down in between
Like a bull chasing the matador is the man left to his own schemes
Everybody needs someone beside em’ shining like a lighthouse from the sea

Brother let me be your shelter
Never leave you all alone
I can be the one you call
When you’re low
Brother let me be your fortress
When the night winds are driving on
Be the one to light the way
Bring you home

Face down in the desert now there’s a cage locked around my heart
I found a way to drop the keys where my failures were
Now my hands can’t reach that far
I ain’t made for a rivalry, I could never take the world alone
I know that in my weakness I am stronger
It’s your love that brings me home

Music Monday: Lux Aeterna

Returning once again to classical music, today’s selection is one of the most stirring renditions I’ve heard of Edward Elgar’s “Lux Aeterna”, performed by the VOCES8:

Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine, cum sanctis tuis in aeternum, quia pius es.
May light eternal shine upon them, O Lord, with Thy saints forever, for Thou art kind.

Requiem aeternam
Eternal rest

dona eis, Domine,
give to them, O Lord,

et lux perpetua luceat eis.
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
