Music Monday: It is well

Today’s music is a modern take on an old hymn. This is Austine Stone’s version of the hymn “It is well”:

When peace like a river attendeth my way
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well with my soul

It is well
With my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul

My sin, oh the bliss of this glorious thought
My sin, not in part, but the whole
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord oh my soul

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight
The cloud be rolled back as a scroll
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend
Even so, it is well with my soul

It is well
With my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul

Music Monday: I just want peace

I’ve been listening to more Joe Zambon recently. This one of my current favouries, “I just want peace”:

Cause I woke up, in the city
and I woke up, my mouth dry
because I woke up, to my living

Good Lord, I’ve been dead this whole time
Cause the sunrise, did in me nothing
Cause I’ve laid in bed every day I knew
And I realised that I’m not living
unless Lord I rise with You

And I don’t want money
nor all the world, honey
Cause I see it as nothing now to me
Cause the world You wanted
gave you nothing of what you need
And I’ll trade it all
If I could just find peace

And I’ve tried to win the affection
from people who have never cared for me
Cause I thought they were what I needed
but they’re just as damn lost as me

so I marry countless lovers
whom I hope would fill the well that had run dry
but I’ll trade all for Your promise
a new life that wells up inside

And I don’t want money
nor all the world, honey
Cause I see it as nothing now to me
Cause the world you wanted
gave you nothing of what you need
And I’ll trade it all
If I could just find peace
all I want is to find peace
(more than the riches)
all I want is to find peace
(more than fine linen)
all I want is to find peace
(more than my addiction)

Cause I see it as nothing now to me
Cause the world you wanted
gave you nothing of what you need
And I’ll trade it all
If I could just find peace

Music Monday: Your love defends me

Here’s the most recent song, “Your love defends me” from the generally-accepted king of Catholic Contemporary Music, Matt Maher:

[Verse 1]
You are my joy, You are my song
You are the well, the One I’m drawing from
You are my refuge, my whole life long
Where else would I go?

[Chorus]
Surely my God is the strength of my soul
Your love defends me, Your love defends me
And when I feel like I’m all alone
Your love defends me, Your love defends me

[Verse 2]
Day after day, night after night
I will remember, You’re with me in this fight
Although the battle, it rages on
The war is already won
I know the war is already won

[Chorus]
Surely my God is the strength of my soul
Your love defends me, Your love defends me
And when I feel like I’m all alone
Your love defends me, Your love defends me

[Bridge]
We sing Hallelujah
You’re my portion
My salvation
Hallelujah
You’re my portion
My salvation
Hallelujah

Music Monday: My Saviour In Me

I discovered today’s musical suggestion from listening to the latest episode of The Catholic Playlist Show. The song is Dana Catherine’s song “My Saviour in Me” and you can hear about the story behind the song here.

Tell me Lord, tell me Lord how can it be,
That you would choose to use someone like me, someone like me?
Couple of billion people in this world, yet you have chosen to use somebody so unworthy.

I’m just another pen you’re putting to the paper, a reflection of my maker,
Add your name on my soul.
I’m just another chapter in this story, another expression of your glory,
Have your way in my soul, I surrender all control…

Let my heart beat to the rhythm of your song
Make the world wanna sing along from the mountains to the valleys
Let my words be truth and life, push out the dark, bring in the light
So that the whole world can see, my saviour in me

My God I’m in awe of what you’ve done
You’ve poured me out to make a vessel of your grace and love
Couple of million reasons why I’m too broken to spread Your light but still You shine

Fill me up, fill my cup
I will never, never be empty

Music Monday: Chase

Another song from my current favourite, John Finch. This is “Praise to you”…

For all that You are
And all that You’ve done
We gather in worship
We lift our hands to the One

Praise to You O Lord Jesus Christ
You will reign forever

Your name shakes the mountains
Your voice calms the sea
You’re greater than my failures
For Your grace abounds in me

Holy Spirit come
Let your will be done
Have Your way in me

Your presence fills my heart
You’re throned in majesty
We will glorify Your name
Jesus You are King!

Music Monday: Heart of Mercy

I’m still on a John Finch kick at the moment. Today’s song is a duet with Rita West, a delightful song entitled “Heart of Mercy”:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfr5JzsJQMo

There is a harbor for those in need of safety,
a place, a place where we can rest.
There is a father, who left his thrown above,
to find, to find this wayward soul.
I’m drawing closer…

Into the heart, into the heart of mercy
that bore my shame, and broke my chains at Calvary.
That love poured out, and saved by grace you lead me home.
Into the heart of God, into the heart of mercy.

I run to you, your arms are open wide.
Forgiven, forgiven and set free.
I’ll follow you for you have made a way,
to mend, to mend this broken heart.
I’m falling deeper…

Blood and water, pouring from your side
it floods my heart and brings me back to life. x2

Music Monday: Walk by faith

Today’s song is one which I discovered through the Catholic Playlist Show and I’ve had it on pretty much constantly this entire weekend. The tune is catchy, but it was the lyrics which caught the heart of this Restless Pilgrim! The song is “Walk by faith” by John Finch:

There are days I still long for purpose
to see the plans that you have willed for me.
Though sometimes I am walking through the valley,
I’m certain you are always right beside me

Even when I can’t see, I can’t see…
And you have gone before me, before me…
And I will walk by faith, I will walk by faith
The future is a mystery, a mystery…
Forever will you lead me, lead me…
And I will walk by faith, I will walk by faith

Lord, I’m looking for a perfect answer
to all the questions my heart begs of you
And if you give me more than I can handle,
I will pray for strength to make it through

You’re my confidence, my life is in your hands x2
