Music Monday: Better

This week’s song is Pat Barrett’s “Better”:

https://youtu.be/xUcvp98UrF4

All the money that the world could hold
Mountains made of solid gold
Riches that could buy my dreams
You are better than all these things

The prettiest face to turn their eyes
Beauty that could hypnotize
The open doors that looks may bring
You are better than all these things

Your love is better than life
You are the well that won’t run dry
I have tasted and I have seen
Oh, You are better than all these things

Power that could shake the moon
Most important one in every room
Status matched by only kings
You are better than all these things

Being liked and loved by everyone
Approval that outshines the sun
Cheered by all who think of me
You are better than all these things
You are better than all these things

You are better, oh, You’re better
I have tasted and I have seen
You are better than all these things
Oh, Your love is better than life
You are the well that never runs dry
I have tasted and I have seen
You are better than all these things
You are better than all these things

Oh, I know You are better than all these things
I know You are better than all these things
I know You are better than all these things
You are better than I can imagine
Better than I can imagine, over, above what I seek
Better than I can imagine, Your love for me
Better than I can imagine, over, above what I seek in life
You are better than all these things
Woah, I know You are better than all these things
Woah, I know You are better than all these things
Better than I can imagine

Music Monday: Fix My Eyes

Today’s music recommendation comes from the guys at The Lamp-Post Listener. This is “Fix My Eyes” by Kings Kaleidoscope:

When my heart is weary, when my soul is weak
When it seems I can’t traverse the trail before me
I survey the glory of your agony
And I find the will to fight for what’s before me
Cause you ran the race enduring for your glory

I fix my eyes on you, the founder and the finisher of our faith
I fix my eyes on you, the solace in your suffering is my strength

As I fight to follow, you’re my righteous guide
And you train me to delight in all that’s holy
Heal my broken body, cure my crooked stride
Throw off every weight and sin that clings so closely
I will run the race enduring for your glory

You help me breathe, you’re the only life I need
You died for me, you’re the only life I need

Music Monday: On Eagle’s Wings

Okay, I know a lot of people hate this song (personally, I don’t have that kind of animus), but here is probably my favourite rendition of it:

You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord
who abide in his shadow for life
say to the Lord, “my refuge my Rock in Whom I trust”

And He will raise you up on eagles wings
bare you on the breath of dawn
make you to shine like the sun
and hold you in the palm
of His hand

The snare of the fouler will never capture you
and famine will bring you no fear
under His wings your refuge
His faithfulness your shield

You need not fear the terror of the night
nor the arrow that flies by day
though thousands fall about you
near you it shall not come

Music Monday: Only a Holy God

My buddy Russ recently posted this song, “Only a Holy God” by City Alight:

Who else commands all the hosts of heaven
Who else could make every king bow down
Who else can whisper and darkness trembles
Only a Holy God

What other beauty demands such praises
What other splendour outshines the sun
What other majesty rules with justice
Only a Holy God

Come and behold Him
The One and the Only
Cry out, sing holy
Forever a Holy God
Come and worship the Holy God

What other glory consumes like fire
What other power can raise the dead
What other name remains undefeated
Only a Holy God

Music Monday: The Anthem

We had a retreat this weekend in San Diego and I was introduced to this song…

Hallelujah, you have won the victory (lift up your voice and say now)
Hallelujah, you have won it all for me

Death could not hold you down
You are the risen king
Seated in majesty (yeah)
You are the risen king

By his stripes we are healed
By his nail pierced hands, we’re free
By his blood we’re washed clean
Now we have the victory

And The power of sin is broken
Jesus overcame it all, yeah, yes he did
(He has won) He has won our freedom (yes he has)
Jesus has won it all (it all, oh)

Hallelujah (won the victory) you have won the victory (so glad that we’re alive, sing)
Hallelujah (you have won it all) you have won it all for me (we sing death could not hold)

Death could not hold you down (you’re alive and well and)
You are the risen king (yeah, sing)
Seated in majesty (sing You are the king of glory)
You are the risen king (yeah, yeah, sing death could not hold you)
Death could not hold you down (nothing can hold you down, no God)
You are the risen king (and you’re seated in)
Seated in majesty (oh, you are the great)
You are the risen king (stretch out your hands, stretch out your hands, stretch out)

Our God is risen (He’s alive), He is alive (He’s alive)
He won the victory (sing He’s alive), He reigns on high (sing, He’s alive)
Our God is risen (He’s not dead), He is alive (so grateful that He lives)
He won the victory (ohh), He reigns on high (come on)
Our God is risen (He’s alive now), He is alive (He’s alive now)
He won the victory (ohh), He reigns on high (My god is alive and well)
Our God is risen (yes He is), He is alive (yes He is)
He won the victory (come on)
He reigns on high (lift up your hands and you’re voice, sing Hallelujah)

Hallelujah, (you’ve won the) you have won the victory (I’m so thankful for your life )
Hallelujah, you have won it all for me (death could not)
Death could not hold you down (I feel it ? in the air)
You are the risen king (and you’re seated, yeah)
Seated in majesty (He’s great, he’s great, say you are)
You are the risen king (open your mouth, open your mouth, open your mouth now)

Glory, yeah
Wake it open, wake up with the atmosphere
Wake it open with your worship, come on
Wake it open now
Come on ? sing…

Music Monday: Wedding Dress

Since I was at a wedding this weekend, here is Derek Webb‘s song “Wedding Dress”, based on the shocking words of Ezekiel 16. That chapter is all about Israel’s infidelity to God. God had espoused himself to Israel, yet Israel repeatedly was unfaithful to Him…

If you’d like to know a little bit more about the genesis of this song, you can hear the author talk about it here.

If you could love me as a wife.
For my wedding gift your life.
Should that be all I ever need?
Is there more I’m looking for?

Should I read between the lines?
Look for blessings in the skies?
Make me handsome rich and white.
Is that really what you want?

[Chorus]
Cause I am a whore I do confess.
I put you on just like a wedding dress,
And I run down the aisle,
Run down the aisle.
I am a prodigal with no way home.
I put you on just like a ring of gold,
And I run down the aisle,
Run down the aisle, to you.

Could you love this bastard child?
No, I don’t trust you to provide.
With one hand in a pot of gold
And the other in your side.

‘Cause I am so easily satisfied.
With the call of a lover’s soul as wild.
I would take a little cash
Over your very flesh and blood.

[Bridge]
‘Cause money cannot buy
A husband’s jealous eye.,
When you have knowingly
Deceived his wife.

Music Monday: Jesus Messiah

Some great voices here….but also some rather amusing facial expressions… :-/

He became sin, who knew no sin
That we might become his righteousness
He humbled himself and carried the cross
Love so amazing, love so amazing

Jesus messiah, name above all names
Blessed redeemer, Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners, the ransom from heaven
Jesus messiah, lord of all

His body the bread, his blood the wine
Broken and poured out all for love
The whole earth trembled, and the veil was torn
Love so amazing, how can it be? Your love’s so amazing, yeah

All I hope is in you (no one else), all I hope is in you
All the glory to you, God, (you are) the light of the world
