Shout Outs

I started this blog a while back now, in June of 2010.  Today I thought I’d advertise the blogs of some of my friends who also write here on the Internet.

1. Transformed In Christ

The first blog I’d like to share (and what prompted this post) is Hannah’s blog Transformed In Christ. I first met Hannah when I lived in Cheltenham back in 2003. She’s a graduate of Cambridge University and now lives in London. She hasn’t been blogging for very long, but she’s a smart cookie, so expect some good stuff here 🙂

The Restless Pilgrim’s New Home!

Dear All,

In rather ironic news, it gives me great pleasure to announce that the Restless Pilgrim blog has moved! It also has had a bit of a face-lift and now sports a new “travel journal” theme 🙂

I have been blogging since June last year and accumulated over a hundred posts so I decided it was time to commit to this blogging malarkey!

WordPress.com had previously hosted my blog for free at http://ThisRestlessPilgrim.wordpress.com, but the blog now has its own dedicated site here. So please update your email subscriptions, Google Reader and RSS Readers to point to this site.

Life has been rather busy the last few months, what with having a vacation back in England, but I have been working hard and a large collection of posts should soon be seeing the light of day…

Thanks for reading,

David.

Sharing and Subscribing

I was busy getting my car serviced early this morning so I didn’t have time to write a proper blog entry. I’ve got few longer entries which should hopefully be appearing next week.

However, there were a couple of things I’ve been meaning to mention on this blog for a while so I thought I’d quickly address them now…

Sharing

The first thing I wanted to mention is that I’ve installed some widgets which appear at the bottom of each blog entry that allow readers to easily share the articles here with friends on Facebook, Twitter and email:

Sharing widgets

Please note, you have to be looking at a single blog entry in order to see these widgets

New Year Resolutions

Well, it’s a new year, which means it’s time for New Year Resolutions.  Here are those available for public consumption:

1. Spend 30 minutes every day in Scripture: Commentaries and spiritual reading don’t count

2. More dancing: 2010 was an utter failure on that front

3. No more rushing: Stop trying to pack too much into a day

4. No chocolate: This is going to be a toughie… (Note: doesn’t include hot chocolate!) This exception has been viewed as “cheating” by most of my friends and has therefore been dropped.

5. Get into the best shape of my life: I’m in my 30’s now ya know…

6. At least five minutes of guitar practice every day: Gotta get better…

7. Keep proper track of my finances: Even if it is really, really boring…

8. Get back to England for a couple of weeks: It’s about time…

Hello world…

…and so to my first blog entry. So what’s the point of this blog? Several years ago I blogged fairly regularly about whatever was on my mind, but then Facebook came along and almost overnight I stopped blogging.

Facebook was an infinitely more convenient way of sharing news and photographs with my friends, but my blog served other purposes too. I wrote about my work in software development and about things going on in my spiritual life and, of course, life in general. I intend to re-launch my old blog at some point to write exclusively about technology, but what about everything else?

The title of this blog is “This Restless Pilgrim” and it describes well how I’ve felt over the last few years.  These years have certainly been interesting ones,  filled with uncertainty, adventure, frustration, heartbreak and excitement. I moved to London for the first time and moved around a lot before ultimately leaving England and travelling 5,489 miles away to live in the United States. Living a rather rootless life like this tends to teach you some important life lessons and the whole experience has left me with the feeling that they should be shared.

Also over the last few years I have also found myself increasingly called upon to explain and defend Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular. Pope Benedict recently spoke about the use of technology to proclaim the faith and search for truth. As a consequence, I would like to share some of my exchanges regarding the faith.

It has been said that a wise man learns from his mistakes, but a wiser man learns from the mistakes of others. So, if you would like to learn from my mistakes and get a little wiser (or just feel like having a bit of a laugh at my expense) please feel free to stick around.
