When Musicians become Thought Leaders
This article came out last year and I had intended to share it at the time, but I think it’s still worth reading:

I would think calling these artists “worship” leaders is a problem in and of itself. I also find this disconcerting considering that I think much contemporary Christian pop music is, with few exceptions, subpar at best from a standpoint of songwriting and overall musicianship.
I don’t think this name is so bad as that’s what they’re doing – they’re leading the people in worship (since singing is seen as the primary form of worship). I think stuff like “Worship Pastor” is where things get dicey.
Than would not “song or hymn” leader be more appropriate? The term “worship” leader gives at least an air of a pastoral role these people are not qualified to have.
I don’t see why it gets the air of a pastoral role unless the word “pastor” is in there somewhere. The worship leader isn’t simply a song/hymn leader as that person often leads the corporate prayer too.
