Wise Words on Wednesday: Mind without books
“A room without books is like a body without a soul.”
Marcus Tullius Cicero
"We are travellers…not yet in our native land" – St. Augustine
“A room without books is like a body without a soul.”
Marcus Tullius Cicero
I was down on my luck, I was stuck
I was running ’round broken-hearted
I was sinking so fast
I couldn’t last falling apart
And You could’ve ran away
Leaving me there in my shame
Leaving me fighting my pain
But You made a better way
Oh, oh, oh
I’ve been saved
Goodbye to the sinner, I’m held by the Father above
No more shame, for
I’m out of the desert and drowned in the power of love
Amazing grace, my soul set free
Ain’t no grave, got a hold on me
I’m born again, born again
Washed by the water, I’m clean
My eyes have been open
You’re showing me all of my life in a new light
Every step, every breath
Like it’s the first time
You could’ve ran away
Leaving me there in my shame
Leaving me fighting my pain
But You made a better way
Oh, oh, oh
I’ve been saved
Goodbye to the sinner, I’m held by the Father above
No more shame, for
I’m out of the desert and drowned in the power of love
Amazing grace, my soul set free
Ain’t no grave, got a hold on me
I’m born again, born again
Washed by the water, I’m clean
Preacher told me the good, good news (oh-oh, oh-oh)
Went way down deep in the river blue (oh-oh, oh-oh)
Preacher told me the good, good news (oh-oh, oh-oh)
And ever since my heart met You
I’ve been saved
Goodbye to the sinner, I’m held by the Father above
No more shame
For I’m out of the desert and drowned in the power of love
Amazing grace, my soul set free
Ain’t no grave, got a hold on me (no, no, no)
I’m born again, born again
Washed by the water, I’m clean (yeah)
(Washed by the water, I’m washed by the water
Washed by the water, I’m washed by the water)
Amazing grace, my soul set free
Ain’t no grave, got a hold on me
I’m born again, born again
Washed by the water, I’m clean
You’ll often read on the Internet that Jesus is a just a copy of Pagan religions. Here’s why that’s nonsense…
I’m one of those people who doesn’t like to have too much “stuff”. In fact, I’m due for a bit of a purge soon. It turns out that minimalism is on the rise in Japan:
This is always a sensitive subject. How do you decide if you need to find a new parish?
It is a common misconception that, when people convert or revert to the Catholic Church that they only do so when they fully understand all of the Church’s doctrine. This certainly was not true for me. I had come to the point of recognizing that Sola Scriptura made little sense and that Christ founded a visible Church. However, there were many of the Catholic Church’s teachings I didn’t really understand. For me, most of these difficulties surrounded the person of Mary. I just couldn’t wrap my head around the Catholic fascination with the mother of Jesus…
All this started to change when I discovered Biblical Typology and started to see Mary pre-figured in the Old Testament. I have written before about how Mary is the Ark of the New Covenant and how this helped me to understand Mary’s Holiness. I have also written about how Mary is the Queen Mother and how this aided my understanding of her as intercessor. Today I would like to write about another very important parallel which I discuss in the talk Mary & The Early Church. Once I began to see Mary as the New Eve I began to see the significance of Mary in the story of Salvation History…
