Pope Francis
There’s some fine commentary going on at the moment in the Catholic Blogosphere concerning our new Pope Francis…
Transcript available here
I’m not really going to add to all this commentary. All I’m going to say is that I’m over the moon that we have a Pope from Latin America and that I’m excited to have a Pope who has had connections with the Eastern Rites of the Catholic Church. He comes across as welcoming and humble. Thanks Cardinals!
Everything I read about him, I like and respect him more and more. Such humility greeting the crowds in St. Peter’s Square! And apparently he took the bus back to Doma Santa Marta with the other cardinals tonight (well, last night, Rome time), rather than taking one of the cars set aside for him, because he “wanted to be with the guys.” 🙂 Our Church is so blessed!!
So so so grateful for this man already – and I cannot wait to read anything he writes or has written!! David, could you maybe link to any particular blogs that you have liked for coverage of this or more information about our new papa?
Here’s a few 🙂

Oh, and his his first homily:
“This is the same Peter who confesses to Christ, who says ‘you are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. I will follow you, but let’s not speak of crosses! This has nothing to do with it. I will follow you with other possibilities, without the Cross…
“And, if we walk without the Cross, how much do we build without the Cross? And, when we confess Christ without the Cross, then we are not disciples of the Lord….We might be bishops, priests, cardinals and Popes, but we are not disciples of the Lord…
“I would like all of us, after these days of grace, to have the courage, precisely the courage, to walk in the presence of the Lord, with the cross of the Lord, to edify the Church in the blood of the Lord poured out on the cross and to confess the only glory, that of Christ crucified.”
Not bad for a Jesuit. 😉
Totally kidding. He took on the name sake of one of my spiritual fathers, so he already won me over. 🙂
Besides, with only the few things I came across…I think he will be a great pope and exactly who we need in this time and age. 🙂
