The Mobile Challenge

I saw someone post this on Facebook and thought it was simply brilliant:

Everyone puts their phones in the middle of the table. Whoever cracks first by touching their phone, pays for the entire meal.

The purpose of the game was to get everyone off their phones, away from twitter, facebook, texting, etc and to encourage conversations. In other words, help cure the “Anti-Social Social Media Craziness”. Here are the rules:

1. The game starts after everyone sits down.

2. Everybody places their phone in the middle of the table.

3. The first person to touch their phone loses the game.

4. Loser of the game pays the bill for everyone’s meal.

5. If the bill comes before anyone has touched their phone, everybody is declared a winner and pays for their own meal.

Resolution Update #3

Time for a resolution update…

1. Read through the New Testament Twice
It’s been slow moving. I haven’t been doing very well… 🙁

2. More dancing
I had been holding rehearsals for the gentlemen from Daughters Of The King and I went out Ballroom Dancing on Friday. Slowly getting back…

3. Be more gentle with people
A few big failures, but some successes too.

4. No sodas/fizzy drinks
Not touched a drop

5. Get into the best shape of my life
I didn’t get to Boot Camp in the last two weeks before Daughters Of The King, but I’ll be back on Monday. Other than that, I’ve been eating pretty well and stayed active.

6. Complete reading list
I haven’t finished my book for February, but I’m going to try and finish it this week.

7. Keep proper track of finances
I caught up with a load of paperwork the other day.

8. Tick something off my TODO list everyday
This has been going well.

10. Fast on Wednesday and Friday
I forgot one Wednesday lunchtime, but other than that, good 🙂

11. Give up Facebook for 40 days
As it was Sunday I uploaded a 200 photos from Daughters Of The King, but other than that, I’m doing okay 🙂

12. Make an effort to dress well for Mass
Still going strong.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Whether I’ve been single, dating someone or had a girlfriend, I’ve never been the greatest fan of Valentine’s Day. Too much expectation, too much pressure. But whatever your perspective on Valentine’s Day and whatever your Facebook “Relationship Status”, hopefully one of today’s videos will make you smile… 😉

Staying Connected

I wrote this post over a year ago but I never felt quite comfortable in publishing it. I now think it’s time…

I have my friends in Washington DC on speed dial. I am only a few clicks away from video chatting with my family in England. I regularly send emails and texts which could wait until we meet in person, but I choose not to delay because of the ease of communication. We live in a world in which we are increasingly connected to one another…

This idea of a deep connection between people in far-flung locations is nothing new. Catholicism has clearly understood this concept for two thousand years. I mean, think of all the things that Catholics “share”. Regardless of where we are in the world, we are all washed in Baptism. We share in the same Spirit. This connection through the Spirit is indeed profound; we are all bound together, even with those who have already died and are in Heaven. We pray common prayers such as the Our Father and Hail Mary. We share a common Sunday liturgy. We proclaim the same creed. And finally, of course, we share the same Eucharist meal.
