{"id":934,"date":"2010-10-18T20:11:39","date_gmt":"2010-10-19T04:11:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thisrestlesspilgrim.wordpress.com\/?p=934"},"modified":"2015-03-19T14:24:30","modified_gmt":"2015-03-19T21:24:30","slug":"beginning-ignatius-letter-to-polycarp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/2010\/10\/18\/beginning-ignatius-letter-to-polycarp\/","title":{"rendered":"Beginning Ignatius&#8217; letter to Polycarp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-797\" src=\"http:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/ignatiusbite.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"194\" height=\"257\" \/>Well, we&#8217;re finally here! \u00a0The last letter of St. Ignatius of Antioch! \u00a0I&#8217;m posting this a bit earlier than usual because the next couple of weeks are going to be rather busy.<\/p>\n<p>Each of the Ignatius&#8217; letters are special for different reasons, but his letter to Polycarp, the bishop of Smyrna, holds a special place in my heart.<\/p>\n<p>In some ways it reminds me of the book of Proverbs, since Ignatius\u00a0often offers Polycarp advice in the form of short exhortations.<\/p>\n<p>This is the only personal letter Ignatius wrote to a fellow bishop and should, in my not so humble opinion, be required reading for all pastors and all those who minister in the Church.<\/p>\n<p>When I have friends who enter the seminary, they usually receive a card from me with a quotation which comes from somewhere in this letter. \u00a0Whenever I become discouraged in the ministries in which I serve, <em>this<\/em> is the document I usually dig out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/ignatius-to-polycarp.pdf\">\u201cSt. Ignatius of Antioch\u2019s letter to Polycarp\u201d PDF<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.trycatch.net\/audio\/ignatius\/IgnatiusOfAntiochToPolycarp.mp3\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cSt. Ignatius of Antioch\u2019s letter to the Polycarp\u201d Audio<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">I said this was Ignatius&#8217; last letter, but that is not strictly true, for there was one final letter he wrote, to both\u00a0his <span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>&#8220;God Jesus Christ&#8221;<\/em><\/span> and to the <span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>&#8220;Catholic Church&#8221;<\/em><\/span>.
