\"\"I’ve just got back home from my Holy Hour.\u00a0Despite being brought up a practising Catholic and being in Catholic education for the majority of my schooling, I somehow missed out on many quintessentially Catholic experiences, two of which are Adoration and Benediction.<\/p>\n

I remember an incident a few years ago when my girlfriend and I were asked to do the music at a healing Mass. We presented our song suggestions to the planning team and they were well received, but it was also requested that, at Benediction after Mass,\u00a0we play\u00a0“Tantum Ergo”<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n

At this point in my journey I was vaguely aware of what Benediction<\/a> was, but neither of us were familiar with the hymn “Tantum Ergo”<\/em><\/span>. We tried to “push back” on this suggestion and recommended other songs instead, ones with which we were more familiar. However, the planning team was adamant, we\u00a0had to<\/span> do “Tantum Ergo”<\/em><\/span>…<\/p>\n

After spending some time looking at the music we eventually concluded that it was “actually not too bad”<\/em><\/span>. However, because of the\u00a0unusually\u00a0strong reaction to our suggestion to play something else, that hymn was forever dubbed in our minds as “The Tantrum<\/strong> Song”<\/em><\/span>!<\/p>\n

Tonight at Benediction we sang The Tantrum Song. I know many Catholics will be familiar with the Latin, but I’m sure that quite a few will not know the exact meaning of the words. Here they are:<\/p>\n

This great Eucharistic hymn was written by (surprise, surprise) St. Thomas Aquinas (seriously, where did they guy find the time<\/a>?!). Over recent years I’ve developed an increased liking for this song, but it wasn’t until I heard\u00a0Matt Maher’s rendition<\/a>\u00a0that I truly began to fall in love with it.<\/p>\n

My favourite lyric is:<\/p>\n

“Faith for all defects supplying, where the feeble senses fail”<\/em><\/span><\/em>
\n(Literally “Let faith provide a supplement for the failure of the senses”<\/span><\/em>)
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

It is because of this line that I always take off my glasses during Adoration. I figure that, if my senses are going to fail me in discerning the Body of Christ, then I may as well rely on them even less, in the hope that my faith might have a greater opportunity to grow \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
