Here&#8217;s one I received earlier this week:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div><em><span style=\"color: #000080\">&#8220;Last week my Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion was saying, &#8220;THIS IS THE Body of Christ.&#8221; It struck me as wrong. Is this ad-libbing, embellishing, inappropriate, or no problem?&#8221;<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-60641\" src=\"http:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/ExtraordinaryMinister.jpg\" alt=\"ExtraordinaryMinister\" width=\"850\" height=\"455\" srcset=\"https:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/ExtraordinaryMinister.jpg 850w, https:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/ExtraordinaryMinister-300x161.jpg 300w, https:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/ExtraordinaryMinister-768x411.jpg 768w, https:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/ExtraordinaryMinister-600x321.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In case anyone is interested, here was my reply&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m pretty confident in calling this an embellishment, one which is most likely inspired by the admirable desire on the part of the Extraordinary Minister to emphasize to the communicants what\/who they are receiving.<\/p>\n<p>There are lots of embellishments I&#8217;ve seen over the years, many of which I&#8217;ve liked. However, I&#8217;m a <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wdtprs.com\/images\/10_05_30_pages_01.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Say the black, do the red&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0<\/em> kind of guy and think that we should generally just perform\u00a0the Liturgy given to us by the Church &#8211; it&#8217;s best for everyone that way.<\/p>\n<p>After a little bit of digging around the website for the US Conference of Bishops, I found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/prayer-and-worship\/the-mass\/order-of-mass\/liturgy-of-the-eucharist\/extraordinary-ministers-of-holy-communion-at-mass.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">confirmation<\/a>\u00a0of my hunch:<\/p>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<div>The proper and only permissible form for distributing Holy Communion is to offer the consecrated bread by saying, &#8220;The Body of Christ&#8221; and to offer the consecrated wine by saying, &#8220;The Blood of Christ.&#8221; No other words or names should be added; and the formula should not be edited in any way.
