This lunchtime there was the #WomenBetrayed rally outside of Planned Parenthood here in Seattle:\"Lunchtime\"<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Pro-Choice Presence<\/h2>\n

There was very little pro-choice presence\u00a0at the rally. Only eight\u00a0counter-protesters were present, and they\u00a0only turned up\u00a0in the final\u00a0five minutes of the rally.<\/p>\n

Before I left, I took at look at their, frankly, rather tired looking homemade signs (given the $500 million in annual federal funding, you’d think Planned Parenthood could have coughed up for some better-looking ones). There were a couple of classics, such as\u00a0the “No coat-hanger”<\/a>\u00a0picture and the “Keep your rosaries off my ovaries”<\/a><\/em> slogan.<\/p>\n

There was one which said “77% of anti-abortion leaders are men. 100% of them will never be pregnant”<\/span><\/em>. I’m note quite sure where this\u00a0statistic comes from (does anyone know?), but it’s replete with flaws<\/a>. I also couldn’t help but wonder that, how the protester felt about\u00a0the gender make-up of the group who passed Roe vs. Wade…<\/p>\n

Remember, men aren’t qualified to talk about abortion, let alone enact laws concerning it…<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

Another protester had a sign which said “Pro-Lie”<\/em><\/span>, which I thought was a rather “interesting” choice, particularly given all the scandal that Planned Parenthood has recently endured (covering up\u00a0child abuse, child trafficking, statutory rape, etc) and which promises to continue for many months.<\/p>\n

The most bizarre one, though, was one which said “Christian and pro-choice”<\/em><\/span>. It’s a shame I had to get back to work because I would have been intrigued to hear the explanation of that worldview!<\/p>\n
