As we enter Holy Week I thought it might be helpful if I shared some of the prayers from the Byzantine <a title=\"Know your Rites\" href=\"http:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/2010\/09\/06\/know-your-rites\/\">Rite<\/a>. These prayers are prayed by the priest as you stand before the icon of Christ prior to confessing:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>God our Savior, through your prophet Nathan You granted the repentant <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2%20Samuel%2012:13&amp;version=RSV\" target=\"_blank\">David<\/a> the forgiveness of his sins.\u00a0 You also accepted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2%20Chronicles%2033:19&amp;version=RSV\" target=\"_blank\">Manasseh<\/a>\u2019s prayer of repentance.\u00a0 In your love now receive your servants here present who repent for the sins they have committed.\u00a0 <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>O Lord, Who forgive offenses and pass over transgressions, overlook all that they have done.\u00a0 As You have said \u201cI do not desire the death of a sinner, but that he should turn from his wickedness and live\u201d and, another time, that sins should be forgiven even to \u201cseventy-times-seven.\u201d\u00a0 How incomparable is your goodness and how limitless your mercy; for if You were to take notice of iniquities, who should be able to stand?\u00a0 You are the God of the repentant and we glorify You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever and forever.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>Behold my spiritual child, Christ stands here invisibly and receives your confession.\u00a0 Therefore, be not afraid or ashamed and conceal nothing from your confessor, but tell without hesitation all that you have done so you shall have pardon from our Lord Jesus Christ.\u00a0 Behold his holy image is before us and I am but a witness bearing testimony before Him of the things which you have to say, but if you shall conceal anything you shall have the greater sin.
