{"id":16824,"date":"2013-01-12T14:11:28","date_gmt":"2013-01-12T21:11:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/?p=16824"},"modified":"2016-05-18T06:50:24","modified_gmt":"2016-05-18T13:50:24","slug":"smelling-the-conciliar-coffee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/2013\/01\/12\/smelling-the-conciliar-coffee\/","title":{"rendered":"Smelling the conciliar coffee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/coffee.jpg\" alt=\"coffee\" width=\"800\" height=\"540\" \/>\u00a0Since this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annusfidei.va\/content\/novaevangelizatio\/en.html\">Year of Faith<\/a> marks the 50th anniversary of the <a title=\"V2, We Love You: Introduction\" href=\"http:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/2010\/08\/06\/v2-we-love-you-introduction\/\">Second Vatican Council<\/a>, I&#8217;d like to publish more posts concerning the Council this year.<\/p>\n<p>Today I would like to share a little anecdote concerning the Council I came across in Archbishop Fulton Sheen&#8217;s autobiography,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Treasure-Clay-Autobiography-Fulton-Sheen\/dp\/0385177097\">Treasure In Clay<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #000080\"><em>&#8220;Under the two great tiers which seated about 1,200 bishops on each side of the basilica, there were two coffee bars. It was not long before the Fathers found names for them. One was called <a style=\"color: #000080\" href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=matthew%2016:17&amp;version=KJV\">Bar-Jona<\/a>, which was part of the Hebrew name for St. Peter&#8221; <\/em>&#8211; Fulton Sheen, Treasure In Clay, Page 302<\/span><\/p>\n<p>How adorable is that?!\u00a0Archbishop Sheen later writes that there was a lot of humour at the Council and that there were little poems written and passed around throughout the gathering. At the close of the Council, Bishop John P. O&#8217;Loughlin wrote the following:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #000080\"><em>As we bishops depart from old Roma<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080\"> <em> We can proudly display our disploma<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080\"> <em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0At the Council&#8217;s finale<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080\"> <em> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0We say &#8220;buon natale&#8221;<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080\"> <em> And &#8220;goodbye&#8221; to Bar-Jona&#8217;s aroma<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0Since this Year of Faith marks the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council, I&#8217;d like to publish more posts concerning the Council this year.
