{"id":16100,"date":"2012-12-09T12:02:15","date_gmt":"2012-12-09T19:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/?p=16100"},"modified":"2015-03-19T16:05:52","modified_gmt":"2015-03-19T23:05:52","slug":"happy-hanukkah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/2012\/12\/09\/happy-hanukkah\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy Hanukkah!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/menorah.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"facebook\" src=\"http:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/menorah-235x300.jpg\" alt=\"menorah\" width=\"141\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a>Sunset last night marked the beginning in the Jewish liturgical year\u00a0of <span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>&#8220;Hanukkah &#8220;<\/em><\/span>, also known as the <span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>&#8220;Festival of Lights&#8221;<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Hanukkah is an eight-day feast which commemorates the\u00a0re-dedication\u00a0of the Jerusalem Temple after the Maccabean Revolt in the Second Century BC. \u00a0A description of this revolt is found recorded in 1st Maccabees, a book \u00a0found in the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Deuterocanonical_books\">Deuterocanon<\/a>\u00a0and therefore <a href=\"http:\/\/catholicdefense.blogspot.com\/2011\/05\/prayers-for-dead-memorial-day-in-2.html\">absent from\u00a0Protestant Bibles<\/a>. It is interesting to note, however, that we know for a fact that this festival was celebrated by Jesus:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><span style=\"color: #993300\"><em>\u201cAnd it was at Jerusalem the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">feast of the dedication<\/span>, and it was winter.
