The song is called\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000\">&#8220;Jesus, Friend Of Sinners&#8221;<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"860\" height=\"484\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/K7ZtlGHnpAs?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This is definitely one of my favourite songs\u00a0from their most recent album\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Come-The-Well-Casting-Crowns\/dp\/B005EIHMW2\">Come To The Well<\/a>. It has a few lyrics which I find\u00a0devastating:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><span style=\"color: #000080\"><em>Jesus, friend of sinners, &#8230;we cut down people in your name but the sword was never ours to swing&#8230;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><span style=\"color: #000080\"><em>A plank-eyed saint with dirty hands and a heart divided&#8230;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><span style=\"color: #000080\"><em>Open our eyes to the world at the end of our pointing fingers&#8230;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;and finally&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><span style=\"color: #000080\"><em>Nobody knows what we&#8217;re for, only what we&#8217;re against, when we judge the wounded&#8230;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>It is this last line which I find the most powerful. Before hearing this song I had never really thought\u00a0that when I judged someone, I was judging someone injured. We&#8217;re all wounded, of course, both by\u00a0the Fall and our own personal histories.<\/p>\n<p>Until I heard these words I had never really considered that when someone does something which disappoints or hurts me, it might be due to a wound which that person had previously sustained, so rather than judging and condemning that person, I should instead see him as someone in need of healing.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past few months I have, on occasions, remembered this song and the resolution it inspired: <em><a title=\"New Resolutions\" href=\"http:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/2012\/01\/05\/new-resolutions\/\">Be More Gentle With People<\/a><\/em>. When I have done this, and managed to set aside my indigence and\u00a0anger, and tried to &#8220;look for the wound&#8221;, the results have been quite surprising.
