{"id":8332,"date":"2011-12-11T08:08:50","date_gmt":"2011-12-11T15:08:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/?page_id=8332"},"modified":"2014-12-17T16:30:35","modified_gmt":"2014-12-17T23:30:35","slug":"chapter-5","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/restlesspilgrim.net\/blog\/commentary\/1-peter\/chapter-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Chapter 5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>To the Elders and the Flock<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #993300\"><sup>1<\/sup>\u00a0To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ\u2019s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed:\u00a0<sup>2<\/sup>\u00a0Be shepherds of God\u2019s flock that is under your care, watching over them\u2014not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve;\u00a0<sup>3<\/sup>\u00a0not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.\u00a0<sup>4<\/sup>\u00a0And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Specific exhortations to the leaders of the community.<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #993300\"><sup>5<\/sup>\u00a0In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em><span style=\"color: #993300\">\u201cGod opposes the proud<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #993300\"> but shows favor to the humble.\u201d<sup>[<a title=\"See footnote a\" href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1%20peter%205&amp;version=NIV#fen-NIV-30471a\"><span style=\"color: #993300\">a<\/span><\/a>]<\/sup><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #993300\"><sup>6<\/sup>\u00a0Humble yourselves, therefore, under God\u2019s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.\u00a0<sup>7<\/sup>\u00a0Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Exhortations to the young.<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #993300\"><sup>8<\/sup>\u00a0Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.\u00a0<sup>9<\/sup>Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Reminder to be vigilant.<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #993300\"><sup>10<\/sup>\u00a0And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.\u00a0<sup>11<\/sup>\u00a0To him be the power for ever and ever.
