This is recounted in Acts<\/p>\n

…<\/span>2\u00a0<\/span>and we sent Timothy, our brother and God\u2019s servant in the gospel of Christ,…<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Same as the sender<\/p>\n

…to establish you in your faith and to exhort you,\u00a0<\/span>3\u00a0<\/span>that no one be moved by these afflictions. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The community was still undergoing persecution<\/p>\n

You yourselves know that this is to be our lot.\u00a0<\/span>4\u00a0<\/span>For when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we were to suffer affliction; just as it has come to pass, and as you know.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The apostles also suffered and said that suffering was coming<\/p>\n

5\u00a0<\/span>For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent that I might know your faith, for fear that somehow the tempter had tempted you and that our labor would be in vain.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Paul sent Timothy to Thessalonica to see how the Church was doing<\/p>\n

Timothy\u2019s Encouraging Report<\/span><\/h3>\n

6\u00a0<\/span>But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and has brought us the good news of your faith…<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

They hadn’t given in to persecution<\/p>\n

…and love and reported that you always remember us kindly and long to see us, as we long to see you\u2014 …<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

They still loved them<\/p>\n

…<\/span> 7\u00a0<\/span>for this reason, brethren, in all our distress and affliction we have been comforted about you through your faith;\u00a0<\/span>8\u00a0<\/span>for now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This report gave Paul and the others great joy.<\/p>\n

9\u00a0<\/span>For what thanksgiving can we render to God for you, for all the joy which we feel for your sake before our God,\u00a0<\/span>10\u00a0<\/span>praying earnestly night and day that we may see you face to face and supply what is lacking in your faith?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Paul takes pride in them<\/p>\n

11\u00a0<\/span>Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you;\u00a0<\/span>12\u00a0<\/span>and may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all men, as we do to you,\u00a0<\/span>13\u00a0<\/span>so that he may establish your hearts unblamable in holiness before our God and Father, …<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Paul wants them to grow even more.<\/p>\n

…at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Another reference to Christ’s Second Coming.<\/p>\n
