Sheenist Men’s Conference

The Sheenists are group named after Archbishop Fulton Sheen. They meet up in Escondido once a month to consume fine beverages, smoke pipes and talk theology.

On June 17th the Sheenists will be hosting a one day conference, with a number of speakers drawn from the ranks of the Sheenists, and with the keynotes given by Fr. Carl Gismondi and former host of Catholic Answers Live, Mr Patrick Coffin.

I’ve already booked my ticket, but if you have yet to buy yours, I would strongly suggest inviting some friends to go with in order to get the group discount:

Cost for two tickets: $70 (working out at $35 each)
Cost for three tickets: $90 (working out at $30 each)

Here’s to looking forward to some of the manliest conversations you’ve ever heard!

What Patrick did next…

If you’ve ever done Catholic apologetics, you will have almost certainly have come across the former host of Catholic Answers Live, Patrick Coffin. Patrick has recently started a podcast which I’ve been listening and I thought it would be a good time to share the interview he gave on The Journey Home where he describes his own journey of faith:

Catholic Answers Summer

summer

As many of you know, I recently moved back from Seattle to my old stomping ground of sunny San Diego. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get back in time for the Catholic Answers Summer Series where the speakers from the local apologetics apostolate give talks at different parishes around the Diocese. Fortunately, they’re available online!

Tim Staples: Behold your mother, Defending your faith
Jimmy Akin: Understanding the Book of Revelation
Karlo Broussard: Defending truth in a relativastic culture, God still matters
Patrick Coffin: Apologetics for chickens
Christopher Check: The Galileo Affair

Addressing the reasons for abortion

As the 40th anniversary of “Roe v Wade” draws to a close, I thought I’d post another video from Trent Horn‘s recent segment on Catholic Answers radio where pro-choice callers were invited to call in with their questions.

I would really recommend that you watch it as it’s apologetics at its best – clear, logical and cordial. If you do watch it, please watch it right until the end as the final comment is simply  priceless.

(It’s also worth watching because at 6:20 Patrick, in true Canadian style,
uses the phrase “couldn’t care less”)

Sex Au Natural!

A few months ago I went to the Catholic Answers Gala which was hosted by Patrick Coffin. Here he is speaking about his book, Sex Au Natural:

I read his book a good while ago and really enjoyed it. In fact, I’d suggest that it’s one of the best books I’ve read explaining the controversial Papal Encyclical Humanae Vitae. Patrick thoroughly explains the Catholic objection to contraception, looking at it from practical, historical, Scriptural and philosophical points of view.

As it happens, he’s having a sale going on at the moment, so head on over to his blog and get some Christmas shopping done!

Free. Total. Faithful. Fruitful.

My Godson’s Birthday

Today is my Godson’s birthday so I thought I’d do a little bit of a giveaway to mark the occasion. The prize up for grabs is a signed copy of Getting Started In Apologetics by the very excellent Patrick Coffin.

Entering is easy. Simply leave a comment below, together with the text of your favourite prayer (I’m always on the lookout for new ones!).

At the end of the month I will then use a random number generator to pick the winner and then mail out the CDs.

Good luck!
