Epistle to the Philippians

If St. Paul’s letter to the Philippians could be summed up in a single word, I think it would be “joy”. On every page of this short letter joy, that fruit of the Holy Spirit, is mentioned. In fact, the words “joy” and “rejoice” appear roughly sixteen times in four short chapters. Paul talks about joy in many different situations of life. He talks about joy in prayer, in preaching, in welcoming, in unity and even in suffering

The pages of this letter are filled with many more beautiful, powerful and memorable lines:

…he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus…continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling…I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord…Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God – Philippians 1:6; 2:12-13; 3:8; 4:6

It’s no surprise, therefore, that for many people, their “life verse” is found in this epistle of joy :-)
