The Colleen Nixon Test

I can always tell if I haven’t had a Skype date with my niece in a while. If I’ve watched the video of the song “Perfect” by Colleen Nixon more than three times in a day,  then I’m overdue. Today I’ve watched it five times… :-/

I was first introduced to Colleen Nixon in a post by “Neal Obstat” at the time when she first launched her Kickstarter campaign to produce a new album. Her musical style is somewhat hard to pin down. Pop? Jazz? Folk? I think it’s difficult to categorize because of her versatility and diversity of style.

Much like Audrey Assad, I find it hard to listen to her music without being arrested by her lyrics. For example, have a listen to this:

Great lyrics right? “Because you love me…completely… You won’t separate my body from my soul…”. It’s like Theology of the Body set to piano 🙂

If you’d like to listen to more of her music, her album Love Is In The Details is available for purchase and it really is wonderful. Unfortunately only has six tracks, but they’re all great. I hear that her next album, Lake Ella’s Sky, should be out very soon.

Oh, and speaking of new releases, I just found out that Maximilian Michael Nixon was welcomed into the world two days ago! Please send up a short (or long!) prayer for Colleen and her family 🙂
